Drowning in My Own Head

My turn at being angsty. Anybody who ever said students are bludgers and they should join the real world blah blah blah should try writing a thesis or a novel. This is honestly the hardest thing I've ever done in my life (since my last dissertation). My head hurts...

Bedroom Junk Pt 3

Yes, there's more junk ...alot more. Last weekend I cleaned out my bedroom and filled two bins with stuff to throw out, plus 3 bags of clothes were given to charity. The amount of dust in the room filled THREE dustpans full (I am ashamed to say). I really should have taken 'before and after' photos. It is not the same room anymore.

Anyway, here are a few more treasured items from among the rubble:
I love wind up toys. I could probably write a whole post about how cool wind up toys are, particularly robots. This is a vintage replica robot I bought at a Sci-Fi exhibition. In the background is a great photo of my Gran in the 1940s at a pub in Adelaide. She is the one in the white hat.
I adore Ricky Gervais. This is an autographed photo of him in the movie 'Night at the Museum'. I love the pic because it combines my love of Ricky and my love of monkeys. Next to the Ricky photo is a 1950s toilet roll dolly.

Another shelf full of goodies! This Rooster and Egg sit there, just chillin out together, it vaguely amuses me. I got them in a market in Ubud, Indonesia. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been, I had such a ball there. In the background are more travel souvineers: a stuffed camel from Kashgar, (North West China) and a sand art of some pandas which I got the first time I went to Beijing.

NEW BLOG DESIGN!

I had a little go at updating my blog's appearance! I should make the disclaimer that I am really bad at computer stuff, so it was a bit of a learning curve for me. Feel free to leave feedback here.

Canbra Panx Rock Out!

Here documented for your amusement are some of the fun times had with peeps in the local punk scene. Good times to be had fo sure.

Here's a pic of some of the regular crew, messing about in Glebe Park which is kinda our big city park, which is tiny compared to NY Central or London's Hyde Park. Basically its about the size of two football fields, filled with trees and a couple of BBQ spots. Great setting for a few beers and frisbee.
At a Basement show, rockin out! This band is called 'All in Brawl'
Here is one of my best friends  the ever handsome Jack Lusty on drums at a Punk in the Park. He plays for a band called Eye Gouge, who sound like a lot of old school American hardcore.
Here's Eye Gouge again at Punk in the Park, usually held down by the lake in the warmer months, cos it is well stupidly cold here in winter.
Knife Fight from USA came and played at one of our Punk in the Parks. I've been going to PITPs for over ten years now, and this was an ok show. Good size crowd, really good band too. There were probably much crazier times in the old days when more punk bands played. Hardcore crowds tend to take themselves a bit too seriously. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s when the punk bands played there were often streakers and lots of dancing and we would have BBQs while the bands were on. Really really good memories.
Another shot of Knife Fight.

I hope these posts are of interest to give you an idea of what we do in my town for fun. Really where I live (Canberra, Australia) is one of the most boring places on the face of the earth (I have traveled quite a lot so this isn't just talking out of my ass, it is actually true) but occasionally when a good punk show happens it makes this town not so bad for a few hours :))

Thanks for reading!
+1 me if you enjoy my posts.

artisticsnessesses

Occasionally I crack out the paintbrushes and canvasses and have a good go at unleashing my inner artist.

Here's a sample of my dabbles with the brush :))

The three paintings above are miniatures, approximately 20cm square. I really enjoyed working on a small scale. All three are self-portraits (with alot of artistic license) meant to represent three aspects of my depressive funk I was in at the time.

Just some pen and inks from my sketch pad...

This is meant to be my dog, Bettie...I haven't finished colouring her in yet. I think I'll get her tattoed on me.

Crazy House Parties!!

Okay, so I've lived with my housemate Jess for about 2 years now, and we are the PARTY QUEENS of Canberra. We love to party and we live to party :)) Here for your general amusement is documented some of the great times we had. We've had at least 3 shows in our backyard with bands. The craziest of all was my birthday part where we had TEN bands play. Always, the mosh mattress makes an appearance hahaha

Below is the infamous GO-KARTING night. We built a go-kart out of an old skateboard and a Coles crate and bombed the hill (exempt I had a broken ankle at the time so could only watch...)

Above and below is the BIG party with the ten band line up...

On my birthday, that particular night we had over 100 people in our yard, but its okay cos we charged em $5 each to get in :)) It was minus 4 degrees that night and we all froze our arses off around some small measley fires, but it was worth it for the good memories.

CRAZY CRAZY PARTY TIMES.

Junk I Got Overseas/ JunkBot's Kitchen

I got a couple of puppets in Thailand and Burma. This is a Thai Angel. It hangs in the corner of my room off the curtain rail.
I found this little beauty on the streets of Tokyo! What an awesome souvineer. I love it.
This is the poodle I bought in Paris at the flea market. Its a wind up toy that plays a song and the ears move and the tail wags and the mouth/eyes open and shut. I bought it from a man who must have been in his 80s or 90s (or a 60 year old who'd had a really hard life) and he told me its from the 1950s. Poodles are so Parisian :)

I'm not just all about junk either. I looove to cook. Here's the recipe I came up with last week. A stir fry of silken tofu, egg and tomato on rice. It is delicious.

Basically you stir fry the tofu, tomato and egg in a lovely mixture of garlic, dried chillis, soy sauce, fish sauce, shaoxing cooking wine and a drizzle of sesame oil. Yuuuummmmm. Serve on rice.
